Engineering Humanitarian Design Challenge 2024: Home

About the Humanitarian Challenge

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals were developed as a target for the world to work towards, to articulate the challenges faced by communities across the globe and aid in discovering solutions to those problems.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests. (United Nations, 2015)

This Humanitarian Challenge has been created to give first-year university students in ENS1154 Introduction to Engineering the chance to work together to solve a genuine engineering problem. It provides you with the opportunity to learn about design, teamwork and communication through real, inspiring, and sustainable cross-cultural development projects. This challenge gives you a fantastic opportunity to design creative solutions to real-world problems.
