Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) is the research quality evaluation initiative of the Australian Government, administered by the Australian Research Council (ARC). ERA is used to evaluate the quality of research undertaken by each university in Australia.
Your choice of journal will affect whether your article will be eligible to be counted as part of the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) evaluation.
When selecting a book publisher it is a useful to see what characteristics a publisher must have in order for its publications to be counted as part of ERA.
In both the Government Specifications for verification of research outputs in RAS and in the ERA 2018 Submission Guidelines it is noted that one criteria a book must satisfy to be included in assessments, is that it be published by a commercial publisher or be peer reviewed.
The Government Specifications for verification of research outputs in RAS defines a commercial publisher as "...an entity for which the core business is publishing books and distributing them for sale." It is also noted that publication involves more than book production and includes editing, copy-editing, and a number of quality control measures such as peer review or in-house expert assessment
The Library facilitates a range of workshops specifically designed to assist research staff and higher degree by research students. All of the Library Research Services workshops are currently being offered in online format due to concerns around COVID-19. Please view our updated workshop page below.
