Generative AI and Copilot: Use GenAI to Research

Aims & objectives

In this module, you will:

  • Access gen AI with Microsoft Copilot
  • Understand the general principles of how to use generative AI as a student
  • How to:
    • Use gen AI to understand your assessment topics
    • Use gen AI to plan your assessment responses, and
    • Use gen AI to define research strategies for your assessments, and
    • Critically assess gen AI outputs
  • Know how to acknowledge and reference your use of gen AI, and
  • Find gen AI services and tools.

When you finish the module, you will be able to:

  • Explain ECU's approach on using generative AI as an ethical and responsible part of your study process
  • Use generative AI to:
    • Understand, explore, and review topics
    • Plan your assessment structure, and help you schedule your study, and
    • Organise your research strategies to use in ECU Library Search, and manage your readings
    • Critically assess gen AI outputs to ensure reliability and accuracy
  • You will be able to identify when (and why) to acknowledge your use of generative AI
  • How to reference generative AI when directly using the output, and
  • Find generative AI services and tools, and identify their strengths and weaknesses for differing use cases
