Digital Essentials: Discussion board basics

Using Blackboard discussion boards

The Discussion Board is a communication tool that can be used to enhance a Blackboard unit or community site. Conversations are grouped in threads that contain a main posting and all related replies.

Discussion boards are asynchronous communication channels, which means that communication is not necessarily in real time. Discussion Boards allow you to post and respond to post throughout semester. Using the boards, you will be able to access discussions, manage posts and reply to them.

Your unit may have specific discussion boards that have a limited access timeframe, so be sure to check these dates.

You can learn more on how to write a discussion forum post in Academic Skills Essentials.
