Manage Your Research Data: Text and Data mining

Text mining and text analysis have different origins but have become closely related over time. Today, the terms are often used interchangeably. Both involve using computational methods to search, retrieve, and analyse text data.

Text Mining started in fields like computer science and information management. It focused on using computers to search and retrieve information from databases. Over time, it evolved to include techniques for extracting useful information from large amounts of text using methods like natural language processing (NLP).
Text Analysis began in the humanities. Scholars manually analysed texts and themes. As technology advanced, these manual methods were supplemented with computational tools to handle larger datasets and more complex analyses.
