Manage Your Research Data: ECU Data Management Plan

When creating your Data Management Plan (DMP), you willll need to address several key aspects:

Data characteristics Data features are vital for research studies. Consider identifiability, sensitivity, and legal requirements.
Storage and security Research data must be stored securely. SharePoint is recommended as the default storage platform
Retention

Data retention outlines the archiving requirements after the project has been completed.

Sharing and reuse Researchers should consider making research data accessible. Open access increases transparency.

A DMP should be a living document, regularly reviewed and updated to stay aligned with the project

Data folder structure recommended by ECU's Information Management and Archive Services

ECU's Information Management and Archive Service (IMAS) has recommended the following top level file structure for use while the research project is in process. Arranging your documents in line with the structure facilitates the easy transfer of all project files to IMAS at project completion from the ECU provisioned SharePoint for your project.

Planning, managing, and sharing research data: A national approach

ARDC research infrastructure and guidelines support good data management practices by providing a national standard: Data Management Planning with ARDC Research Infrastructure.

What are data management plans?

Research Data Management guidelines help ensure your data is handled responsibly, securely, and ethically throughout your project.
If your research involves Indigenous participants, it is essential to follow the guidance provided by the AIATSIS Code regarding research data. This ensures that your research is conducted ethically and respectfully, respecting the rights and interests of Indigenous communities.
