eSafety: Your digital wellbeing

Take care of your own wellbeing

Coping with adult cyber abuse can be challenging, but it is possible to move forward. Here are some suggestions for taking care of your mental and emotional well-being:

  • Recognise and validate your emotions, it's normal to feel upset about the situation
  • Be kind to yourself and remember that it's not your fault that you have been abused
  • Recognise your own strengths and abilities, don't let the opinions of others affect your self-worth
  • Prioritise self-care by making time for activities you enjoy, exercise, healthy eating, and getting enough sleep
  • Practice relaxation techniques such as meditation to help reduce stress
  • Surround yourself with positive and supportive people
  • Give yourself time to heal emotionally.

Create a safe space online

To reduce the likelihood of encountering harmful content and behaviour online, consider taking breaks from your devices or disabling notifications at certain times of the day. Engage in other activities like going for a walk, spending time with friends, or reading a book. Another option is to create a designated internet-free area in your home, such as leaving your phone and other devices out of your bedroom at night.

Be positive online

Don't hesitate to respond to negative comments with a positive attitude. Promote positive online behaviour by communicating with respect, tolerance, and empathy.
