Alerting services

Alerting services are current awareness services which aim to keep you up-to-date by sending you a list of the latest additions to a database or website. Alerting services come either as emails or RSS feeds.

Customised Library Database Alerts

Almost all of the databases ECU subscribes to provide an alerting service. Most databases require the user to register before using the alerting services.

Types of alerts (check the database HELP page more information):

  • pre-defined topics: updates on topics selected by the website or database
  • user defined topic: updates on topics based on your saved searches
  • author alerts: specify an author to follow (new publications or new citations received)
  • journals contents pages:
    • each academic discipline has it’s “must read” titles
    • follow the highly ranked journals in your subject are
    • follow journals which appear frequently in your reference list
    • follow journals recommended in your Unit Outline or subject libguide
