VDX user guide and FAQs

Requesting items using a blank form

If your search results do not include your required item, either return to Search and Request to check spelling and/or amend details, or, use the Blank Form link:

On the Blank Form please enter full citation details (full title, no abbreviations) including ISBN/ISSN if known. Use the Special Instructions box (under Additional Information) to enter your reference source and any other information which may help us locate the item.

ISBN and ISSN

  • An ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is a ten or thirteen digit number used to identify books and book-like resources. An ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) is an eight digit number used to identify publications which are produced at regular intervals, for example, print and electronic journals.

  • When requesting books or journal articles using the blank VDX form, if you know the book ISBN or the journal ISSN add this to the relevant section of the request form. The VDX system uses these numbers to locate libraries in Australia which hold the item. This will ensure your request is processed speedily. If you do not the ISBN or ISSN library staff will add this to the request once it has been submitted.
