eBooks

ECU Library has an 'e-preferred' policy - if a book is available in both electronic and print format, the e-format will be purchased.  Please review the information in this guide about searching for and accessing ebooks, and how to read online and/or download and save pages in PDF format.
EBooks can be read online 24/7, but copyright licensing restrictions apply to downloading all or part(s) of the ebook.

Print Books

ECU Library will hold least one print copy of the core textbook and many of the recommended readings for your unit of study. Some print books are held in the High Use Collection to ensure equitable access for all students.  You can check the title of your core books and readings in your unit site.

Instructions: To find ebooks / books on a topic:

• Type your topic (keywords / concept terms) in the search box and click search
• Once the results are displayed, look at the left hand filter options
• Limit the results shown to those items that are held by ECU - select Edith Cowan University
• Under Format, select Book
• You are also able to limit the date range, to access up-to-date resources

Instructions: To find a specific ebook / book:

• Type in the author's surname (family name)  - do not add their first name or initials
• Insert a comma and space after the surname, then type in the book title - for precision add "speech marks" around the exact title
• Click on the search button
• Once the results are displayed, look at the left hand filter options
• Limit the results shown to those items that are held by ECU - select Edith Cowan University
• The book should appear in the first results page - if necessary, under Format, select Book
• If 'Explore all editions & formats' is displayed, select this to ensure you are locating the latest edition of the title and/or to locate the ebook version if not shown.

EBooks can be found using the ECU Library search engine, or you can search directly in some of these databases:

Browsing by Call (Shelf) Numbers is an easy way of locating books and other physical resources relevant to a subject area.

Books are initially shelved numerically, then sorted alphabetically within a Call Number, e.g. 658 AAA, 658 ABA…etc
