Case Structure

Understanding the structure of a case, and knowing which identifying elements are searchable in each database, can save you time in locating the case, looking for other similar cases, and finding additional information to assess its relevance to a particular situation.

The Common Law doctrine of precedent is established on the hierarchical structure of the court system.  Different elements of the hierarchy, and how they relate to each court, must be considered when establishing the precedent.
